Alexander Isak to Chelsea transfer key step taken as surprise swap proposal made

Must read

Chelsea including players in any proposal to sign Alexander Isak this summer is reportedly inevitable.

Newcastle United are said to want a transfer fee of over £115 million to sell the Sweden international, which, combined with the player’s wage demands, makes the move prohibitively expensive for Chelsea. But adding value to the deal by making it a swap deal could be an avenue for the club to make any transfer financially viable.

It is far from the first suggestion of such a deal during the current window. However, such is the size of this potential move that a different calibre of player could feature.

The Guardian reports that Chelsea have discussed the inclusion of Nicolas Jackson in a potential deal to sign Isak. But it is acknowledged that the club are not known to be inviting offers for the striker. The player’s inclusion is described as having an opportunistic element, rather than a willingness to move the player on like, for example, fellow centre-forward Armando Broja, who the club are looking to sell this summer.

However, the reports state there is seemingly little prospect of Newcastle sanctioning a sale. The revelation comes almost exactly a year to the day since the club announced Jackson’s signing. Chelsea paid Villarreal around £30 million to acquire the striker, with the player penning an eight-year contract until 2031. Jackson scored 17 goals and assisted another six across 44 appearances during his debut campaign.

The club have been linked with several centre-forwards this summer, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Dominic Solanke, Jhon Duran, Jonathan David and Samu Omorodion. Marc Guiu is also expected to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer after reportedly agreeing to move from Barcelona as Chelsea are set to trigger the £5 million release fee in the player’s contract with the Catalan club.
