Jennfier Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, according to TMZ. The outlet reports that she filed docs on Tuesday, August 20, “pro per,” which means “by herself and without an attorney.” She also filed on the second anniversary of her and Ben’s second wedding in Georgia, so read into that what you will!
Recently, the celebs have been the subject of countless separation rumors that emerged after Ben did not join Jen at this year’s Met Gala. The two then reportedly put their $60 million Los Angeles home for sale and multiple sources have been claiming their marriage has been over for quite some time.
On June 1, an insider told Page Six that, despite the relationship being over for “months,” Ben remains “very protective of Jennifer.” More specifically, the outlet claims the exes have been “apart” since March, which falls in line with Ben not appearing alongside J.Lo throughout the press tour for her film Atlas (not to mention the Met Gala).
Additionally, Page Six reported that the couple was spotted “unloading some of their prized possessions,” namely “pieces of art.” Since then, Ben has purchased himself a home near Jennifer Garner, while J.Lo looks for a new place of her own.
FYI: TMZ first reported news of marital strife on May 16 when the outlet revealed that Ben had been staying at a Brentwood home by himself. The news was subsequently confirmed by Us Weekly later the same day, and then on May 19 after an Entertainment Tonight source claimed the two were “staying in separate homes and the tension has been high.”
At the time, it was also thought the reason Jen announced the cancellation of her This Is Me…Live tour on May 31 was in order to prioritize working on her and Ben’s relationship. Writing about the decision, the musician penned the following on Instagram via her On the Jlo newsletter: “I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time…”
