Aldi has revealed a list of more than 30 stores it plans to refurbish this summer. It comes as the budget supermarket announces a massive £90 million investment throughout 2024 across more than 100 stores.

Today, it is sharing details of the first supermarkets to be upgraded. Part of the major plan will involve redesigning store layouts which will give customers ‘more space to shop’.

The store improvements will also include an increase in sustainable features, such as installing doors on fridges to reduce energy use and using natural refrigerants to reduce carbon emissions. There will also be better signage too.

Store improvements will begin this month and continue into July and August. Some of the stores with the biggest changes are close to Birmingham as those in Brierley Hill, Leek and Newport have been earmarked for the most upgrades. The Wednesfield and Bedworth supermarkets are also on the list.

“Aldi attracted more new customers than any other grocery retailer in the last 12 months*, and we want to continue to offer the best possible in-store experience for our shoppers,” said Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK.

We’re committed to making sure that the shopping experience is on a par with the high-quality products and service we offer. Finding ways to reduce any environmental impact as we continue to grow our store estate across the country is also a vital part of these changes.”
