A clip of Adele did the rounds on social media last week after she hit out at a seemingly “homophobic” attendee during her Las Vegas residency gig.
In said video, the 36-year-old singer was seen ferociously defending the LGBTQ+ community after a concert goer at her Weekends With Adele show appeared to heckle: “Pride sucks.”
She furiously hit back at the person from the stage, fuming: “Are you f****** stupid? Don’t be so f****** ridiculous. If you have nothing nice to say, shut up, all right?”
However, it turns out Adele may have misheard what was said.
A new clip has since emerged, and it is pretty clear that the so-called “homophobic heckler” didn’t actually shout out “Pride sucks”.
In a longer TikTok video, taken from a different angle at the gig, the person is heard shouting “work sucks” instead.
This comment would make sense, as the Hello singer had just been talking about her busy work schedule, just moments before the heckler spoke out.
Speaking to the audience at the time, Adele explained: “Friday is basically the beginning of my week because that’s when I work, basically.”
After hearing the comment from another perspective with clearer audio, fans stormed to social media to discuss the awkward mishap.
Taking to X, formally Twitter, fan @rosesforwIne pointed out: “But she was talking about work so I guess “work sucks” fits more to the context.”
Another @rhairafranca echoed: “Exactly what I thought.. why would he say “work sucks” if she was talking about pride?”
As @adelesdarlings shared: “At first I believed he said “pride sucks” because it’s like one of those things when you can hear whatever one you’re thinking of. But as soon as someone said “work sucks” I heard it. And it makes sense. Either way, good on her for standing up as she should she’s a queen!!”
While @iamandreaar chimed in: “no matter if it was “work”. she delivered a message, and it’s worth more than anything.”
With user @guer451_linda adding: “Either way no one should be yelling about anything sucking in that room cuz it’s magical in there with her!”
