Ace Ventura star who worked with Jim Carrey dies with tribute to veteran actor

Actor John Capodice, who bagged roles in huge films like Ace Ventura and Independence Day, has died at the aged of 83 after appearing in 150 films and TV shows during his career

Actor John Capodice has died at the age of 83.

The Hollywood veteran starred alongside A-lister Jim Carrey in the film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. He also appeared in huge movies like Independence Day (1994) and TV shows like General Hospital, Seinfeld, and Law & Order.

Capodice, who appeared in over 150 films and TV shows during his career, died on Monday (December 30) but no cause of death has been confirmed. The funeral home where he is said to have died described him as a “devoted husband, father and grandfather”.

The actor lived in Los Angeles, California before moving to Blavelt, New York. He is survived by wife Jane and two daughters Tessa De Pierro and Cassandra Hansen.

The actor’s first role came in 1978 when he appeared as Lloyd Lord in the TV drama Ryan’s Hope. In 1994, he landed a recurring role in hit medical show General Hospital, where he played Carmine Cerullo.

He went on to star in other hit famous US sitcoms including Will and Grace, Seinfield and Law and Order. His later roles include a taxi driver in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, last year.

He also played Big John in the 2024 series Conversations with Mobster.
