David Beckham appeared in the Royal Box at day one of Wimbledon amid a tense feud with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The former England captain sat in the prestigious booth to watch Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz take on Estonia’s Mark Lajal, as the tennis tournament kicked off yesterday.

He was accompanied by his mother, Sandra, and the pair were joined by many star-studded faces, including Jamie Cullen, Alexander Armstrong, and Katherine Jenkins.

Beckham also greeted Sir David Attenborough who was sitting in the Royal Box – both Davids appeared to be in great spirits as they said hello, before taking their individual seats.

However, whilst the prestigious area was filled with a star-studded line-up consisting of sport stars, actors, and presenters, no members of the Royal Family attended.

Harry and Meghan, who stepped down from their royal duties in 2020, were last spotted at Wimbledon in 2019.

Beckham, who posed for photos and signed memorabilia for fans at the event, used to have a strong friendship with the royal couple, alongside his wife Victoria.

The relationship between the two A-lister couples has soured over the last few years. Previously close, the Beckhams attended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding at Windsor Castle in 2018.

However, David was left “absolutely furious” after he and wife Victoria were allegedly accused by the Sussexes of leaking stories, with reports suggesting that their relationship was now “over”.

A source told The Daily Mail: “Any making up now is so unlikely.”

Lizzie Cundy, a former friend of Meghan, also claimed that the Beckhams have slowly distanced themselves from the Sussexes.

Cundy said: “I think Victoria and David have slowly tiptoed away like the other friends.

“Many friends who went to the wedding have tiptoed away from Meghan.”

Since 1922, the Royal Box, situated in the prime-viewing slot at Centre Court, has been used for the entertainment of friends and guests of Wimbledon.

It has 74 exclusive seats and invitations are sent by the Chairman of the All England Club, however, members of The Championships’ Organising Committee and The Lawn Tennis Association can make suggestions.

Wimbledon 2024 began yesterday and lasts for a total of 14 days, concluding on July 14.
