Bologna’s director has provided an update on the future of Joshua Zirkzee amid links to Manchester United.
United have been heavily linked with a move for Zirkzee as the summer transfer window continues to roll on. The striker has been tipped to leave Bologna this summer, with clubs in England and across Europe apparently interested.
As well as United, Serie A giants AC Milan as well as Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in signing Zirkzee. Reports have suggested that the former Bayern Munich star has a £34 million release clause in his contract at Bologna.
There have been suggestions that United could be leading the race to sign Zirkzee in recent weeks. and talk intensified on Monday night with reports claiming a move is ‘close’. Now, an update has emerged from a director at Bologna.

Giovanni Sartori, technical director of Bologna, has spoken about Zirkzee’s future with the Serie A club. The update seems to all-but-confirm what will happen with Zirkzee’s future as the transfer window rolls on.
“He has a clause so he will leave 99.9% of the time,” Sartori said on Monday, via Italian news outlet Caiciomercato.
United have been heavily linked with signing a striker this summer, as Erik ten Hag prepares for his third season as manager. The Reds currently have Rasmus Hojlund as their main striker at the club, with Anthony Martial leaving as a free agent following the expiration of his contract.
It remains to be seen if United will step up their interest in Zirkzee in the coming weeks by activating the reported £34 million release clause in his contract. The striker scored 12 goals with seven assists in all competitions for Bologna last season but has been an unused substitute in all three of the Netherlands group stage fixtures at Euro 2024.
