Newcastle and Nottingham Forest interested in swap deal involving Yankuba Minteh and Anthony Elanga

Must read

Newcastle United have expressed an interest in signing Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga with Yankuba Minteh going in the opposite direction.

Newcastle are under huge pressure to do a deal before June 30 in order to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules and talks between the two clubs have taken place.

Sources have told Telegraph Sport that they are currently discussing a number of deals with a number of clubs but talks with Forest have intensified over the last 24 hours.

Newcastle had raised the possibility of a swap deal involved Elliot Anderson but the loss of the midfielder would be a huge blow to manager Eddie Howe.

Instead, Newcastle have offered Minteh and Forest are considering that proposal although they have other deals they are focused on at this stage.

With Chelsea sniffing around striker Alexander Isak – they have been warned they would have to pay in excess of £150 million for the Sweden international – Newcastle are scrambling to do other deals before the end of June deadline.

There is still hope that teenage winger Minteh can be sold before the end of the month with Brighton and Everton also both interested in a player who impressed on loan at Feyenoord last season.

Minteh’s refusal to complete a move to Lyon for £40 million earlier this week has caused major problems for Newcastle but they are still looking to bring some money in for the player over the weekend.

Telegraph Sport recently reported how the Premier League has written to its 20 clubs to remind them they will be punished for fraudulent player transfers, as scrutiny grows on the so-called swap deals which have been done by certain clubs in an attempt to generate funds to be compliant with financial controls.
