A shop in Minster Lovell is giving customers the chance to win their basket of shopping this summer.
The SPAR store is one of more than 100 across England and Wales taking part in the ‘Make Me A Champion’ competition, which will began at the Oxfordshire shop on Saturday, June 29, and run for three weeks.
‘SPARaoke Saturdays’ will give customers a chance for to sing to win their shopping.
Customers visiting participating Spar shops are invited to grab a microphone and start singing when they hear an iconic song played in store.
After singing for a minimum of 30 seconds, they stand a chance to win their shopping basket’s contents for free.
The participating stores will sporadically play the iconic song on each Saturday for a month, with the competition having started in some other stores earlier this month.
As well as giving customers the chance to win their basket of shopping for free, it also offers the opportunity to win a month’s worth of groceries.
Ian Lewis, the director at SPAR Minster Lovell, said: “We are delighted to be able to open our doors at Spar Minster Lovell and give our customers the unique SPARaoke experience.
“It’s definitely created a bit of a buzz and it’s lovely to give our community the opportunity to grab the mic.
“This is all part of our Make Me a Champion campaign celebrating a summer of sport which includes the touring Champion Food Truck.”
Mr Lewis, whose family has managed the Minster Lovell Spar for three generations since it was first owned by his great aunt and uncle in 1937, finds it “rewarding” to give his customers this opportunity.
He added: “It’s really rewarding to be able to offer our shoppers the chance to shine and be a champion.”
A spokesperson for SPAR said: “We know that most champions belong on the world sporting stage, but we also know that champions secretly live within local communities.
“So, whilst you may not be getting a medal this summer, you can definitely feel the rush of being your local SPARaoke champion with SPAR!”
SPAR said the competition “provides light-hearted relief from the nail-biting stress of the football, Olympics, Paralympics and tennis that the nation will be glued to across the summer”.
The added it is “designed to ensure customers have fun in store and create a ‘Champion’ atmosphere” and that “whether you are stocking up on Spar’s delicious burgers, chips, crisps, dips strawberries or cream – all of these sporting events favourite watching snacks could be yours for free”.
