House Democrats are rallying around goals to make fast fashion more sustainable.
Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) is spearheading the first congressional Slow Fashion Caucus,” which aims to curb carbon dioxide emissions and a fast-growing waste stream through better recycling infrastructure and more ethical and eco-friendly textile sourcing and consumption.
“As lawmakers, we can create incentives for the apparel industry and consumers to reduce natural resource consumption and engage in reusing, repairing and recycling textiles,” Pingree said.
Pingree, ranking member of the House Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, launched the caucus Thursday morning alongside leaders from major retail brands Patagonia and ThredUp.
