The investigation to establish the cause of the suspected explosion is ongoing

A “thorough investigation” is under way to establish the cause of a suspected explosion at a house in Jersey, an energy company has said.

Four people, including two children aged two and five, were taken to hospital after neighbours heard an “enormous bang” at a terraced house in the Mont Pinel area of St Saviour at about 23:00 BST on Wednesday.

States of Jersey Police said there was “significant damage” but the cause was so far unexplained.

Island Energy said there had ben “no gas escape detected” within the areas it had been allowed to survey so far.

Island Energy said it had conducted all the relevant safety checks

Island Energy said: “We continue to support the emergency services with their response to this incident and offer our thoughts to the residents affected.

“When an incident of this nature occurs, we are routinely called… by the Fire and Rescue Service to support them and assist as part of the emergency response team.”

The firm said it had not determined the cause of what had happened.

“Island Energy has not conducted any works in this area in the last two years and we want to reassure people that we have conducted all the relevant safety checks,” it said.

Police said on Thursday the two children were unharmed, but two adults remained in hospital in a stable condition with non-life threatening or life-changing injuries.
