Spain travel warning over ‘weekly’ problem for UK tourists

Must read

Holidaymakers heading to Spain are being warned of an issue which occurs every week. According to a British expat, UK tourists flying to Spain need to be aware of the country’s public holidays.

While many of the UK’s bank holidays fall on a Monday, the rules are different abroad. In Spain, public holidays can be on different days of the week and only affect certain areas.

Expat Stephanie Saint Remy said she has been caught out by this difference a couple of times. She has now said she wants to make UK travellers aware so they do not make the same mistake.

Ms Remy said it can sometimes be difficult to find out about public holidays in the region of Spain you are in, Express reports. She said: “[The] amount of times I’ve gone into a supermarket on a Wednesday only to find that it was closed, is incredible.”

But she said she has found a solution. She added: “If I go into my local supermarket they’ll have their monthly opening hours printed.”

Ms Remy said monthly opening hours indicate which days are bank holidays. The expat recommended that tourists heading to Spain should create a timetable of events happening in the region.
