Euro 2024: Guehi reveals how Gordon picked up cuts and scrapes

England winger Anthony Gordon has been left with a nasty gash on his face as well as cuts on his arms, hands and left knee after falling his bike.

The Newcastle star headed out for a ride with a number of his England team-mates at their Euro 2024 base camp in Blankenhain, Germany only to take a tumble. “He fell off his bike,” defender Marc Geuhi told reporters on Thursday afternoon.

“The boys went out on a bike ride. I actually wasn’t there. I heard about it. I was actually talking to Anthony and I wasn’t really paying attention… turned around and then I saw the massive gash on his chin.

“But he’s okay, he’s okay, but he just fell off his bike. It’s been a bit of a joke in camp but he’s doing well.”

Gordon, 23, played five minutes as late second-half substitute during England’s 0-0 draw with Slovenia on Sunday. With Phil Foden now back home preparing for the birth of his third child, Gordon could start Sunday’s last-16 match against Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen.

The cut-up ex- Everton prospect was spotted in full training with his team-mates on Thursday, although Kieran Trippier and Declan Rice were absent. The duo, who started all three of England’s group stage games, were on individual training programmes.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate could therefore be forced to tinker with his starting XI for the Slovakia game, despite feeling that England made a step a forward in drawing with Slovenia, even though they failed to score for the first time at the tournament and were fortunate to finish top of the group after Denmark drew with Serbia.
