Bid for alcohol sales at Punjabi restaurant at busy shopping area

Must read

Bosses serving Indian food want to sell alcohol to diners at an eatery and takeaway at a busy and ever-changing shopping area in Reading.

The former Cut & Creams Hair & Beauty Salon at 109 Wokingham Road has been taken over by a food business called the Spicy Chulla.

The eatery is billed as a restaurant serving food from the Punjab region of the Indian Subcontinent which spans Pakistan and India.

The owners want to sell alcohol from 10am to 11pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 10.30pm on Sundays.

It is not clear where the owners are at with the preparation of the business ready for opening. Spicy Chulla was shuttered when the Local Democracy Reporting Service passed it just before 2pm on Monday, June 25.

It is understood that the eatery will open soon. To sell alcohol, the owners require licensing consent from Reading Borough Council’s licensing department.

You can comment on their application to sell alcohol by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.

The deadline for responses to a public consultation into the licensing application will be reached on Monday, July 8.
