Davina McCall experienced quite the awkward encounter recently when staff failed to recognise her buying her own fitness DVDs from a second hand store.

While on hosting duties for Heart Radio on Wednesday, the 56-year-old’s co-host Jamie Theakston revealed that he had bought some of her old DVDs on Amazon for a challenge he was about to set her on the show.

Before he could finish explaining what it entailed, Davina joked that they must’ve been cheap to buy after discovering that they were selling for just £1 at pre-owned store CEX. She went on to tell listeners: “I went down the stairs because the kids love it in there.

“It’s like second hand everything, you can buy gaming, phones, iPads, laptops, everything. Downstairs, they’ve got a DVD section [and] I got my entire catalogue.”

The former Big Brother host explained that she had previously given all 15 of her DVDs away, so therefore thought it was the perfect opportunity to buy them all back in the store.

She continued: “I bought my entire back catalogue for £15, one pound each.” Quizzed by Jamie on what the shop assistant thought about her being in the store, Davina said she was awkwardly unrecognised.

She replied: “Nothing, I was standing there kind of going, ‘Ha, this is great’ hoping she’d look at me… nothing. And then, she did kind of look at me and I was like ‘hello’ and nothing.”

In response, Jamie jokingly said she got “ripped off” for paying £1 each for the DVDs, to which she took with great humour.

No stranger to sharing her fitness journey and helping others get in shape over the years, Davina often gives fans an insight into her regime on Instagram, where she has 1.8 million followers.

From Pilates to weighted squats, boxing and yoga, it’s clear the presenter likes to mix things up to maintain her physique as well following a balanced diet and intermittent fasting.

Speaking with Women’s Fitness earlier this year, she shared: “My food philosophy is pretty simple. I try to eat as many colours and as much raw food as I can.

“And because I now know a lot more about my gut microbiome, I’m trying to eat more live cultures. I’d love to say I’m as hardcore about sugar as I was after my sister died in 2012 – I’ve fallen off the wagon a little bit since then – but I’m really a lot better with chocolate.”

Davina went on to say she also tries to avoid processed meats and food that contains saturated fats. “I love sausages but I just know they’re not great for me,” she continued.
