According to research conducted by experts at Viralyft from analytics platform Social Blade, the royals’ Instagram account gained 201,967 followers between the Taylor Swift concert on Friday, 21 June and Sunday, 23 June.

The behind-the-scenes picture also racked up 2.8 million likes and 19,700 comments in just two days, while the actual selfie posted by Swift and featuring William, Charlotte, George and the singer’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, gained 9.2 million likes in the same time frame.

William and Kate’s Instagram followers increased by 3% in 30 days (from 25 May to 24 June), soaring from 16.08 million to 16.5 million, with more than two-fifths happening after the Taylor Swift concert, according to the data.

Thomas Moore, Director of Viralyft, commented on the study: “Prince William’s presence at the Taylor Swift concert with his children, has generated widespread media coverage and social media buzz.

“The concert, attended by thousands of fans provided a perfect backdrop for the royals to connect with a younger, more diverse audience.

“Their engagement in such popular event demonstrates their modern approach and relatability, resonating with the public and boosting their social media following significantly.”

It comes as William delighted royal fans when, on the same day, he was caught on video “dad-dancing” to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”.

Princess Charlotte was seen mimicking her dad right next to him and other children in attendance.
