Before he broke into the acting industry, Sean Connery had a lot of ‘normal’ jobs, but one of them was a little creepier than the rest – can you guess what it was?
Many celebrities had ‘normal’ jobs before they broke into the world of showbiz.
Before they found fame, stars like Madonna, Hugh Jackman, and even Meghan Markle had jobs like regular people do. Believe it or not, Madonna worked at Dunkin’ Donuts, Hugh worked as a party clown, and Meghan Markle worked as a calligrapher. Margot Robbie even worked at Subway, Beyoncé worked in a salon, and Oprah Winfrey worked in a supermarket before she became a household name.
Before Scottish actor Sean Connery found huge fame as the first James Bond, he had a seriously creepy job – and many probably didn’t realise it was a real career.
According to The Kennedy Center, his first job was at the age of seven, when he helped his family out by becoming a milk delivery boy. “By 13 he had to quit school, working as a day labourer, a steel bender, a cement mixer,” the site reports. He even joined the Royal Navy in 1947 for 12 years, but was then discharged “due to severe stomach ulcers in 1950”.
His other jobs included a bricklayer, a lifeguard, as well as a weightlifter and artist’s model. But his spookiest job of all was when he became a coffin polisher. This fact was recently shared by the X (formerly Twitter) account of BBC TV show QI.
According to a newspaper clipping seen on Stark Insider, Sean Connery had an “uncanny ability to visually size up clients for their coffins”, which is a unique skill. It also states: “Mr Connery also revealed that during his time as a coffin polisher, he had regularly bleached mahogany coffins to make them look like oak.”
According to “popular local rumour” too, Sean “slept in a coffin overnight for a bet”.
