Charli XCX and Lorde end their feud as pop stars join forces for Girl, So Confusing remix and address spat

Must read

Charli XCX and Lorde seem to have cast their issues aside and have teamed up for a new remix of Girl, So Confusing, which was released on Thursday.

The shock collaboration follows rumours that the track on Charli’s album BRAT was about Lorde.

In the original version, Charli, 31, references an ‘awkward’ and confusing relationship she has with another female singer who she ‘doesn’t have much in common’ with.

Referencing the way the pair have been compared ever since they entered the music scene, the star sings: ‘People say we’re alike/They say we’ve got the same hair/We talk about making music/ But I don’t know if it’s honest.’

In the surprise remix of the song, Lorde, 27, seemingly confirms it’s about her and addresses the spat.

The Green Light hitmaker sings: ‘Well honestly I was speechless/ When I woke up to your voice note / You told me how you’ve been feeling / Let’s work it out on the remix.

‘You’d always say, ‘Let’s go out’/ But then I’d cancel last minute/ I was so lost in my head/ And scared to be in the pictures.’

During the chorus, they put their voices together to belt: ‘And when we put this to bed/ The internet will go crazy’.

Now that they have hashed it out, the artists have no problem with supporting each other publicly.

Lorde took to her Instagram stories following the release of BRAT, to quip: ‘The only album I’ve ever presaved is out today. Charli just cooked this one different…

‘So much grit, grace and skin in the game. I speak for all of us when I say it’s an honor to be moved, changed and gagged by her work. There is NO ONE like this b**ch.’

Last month, Charli told Rolling Stone that she used to be ‘super jealous of the success’ that Lorde got in her early career.

She said: ‘You piece all this stuff together in your brain, like: She was into my music. She had big hair, I had big hair. She wore black lipstick, I once wore black lipstick.

‘You create these parallels and think, ‘Well, that could have been me.’ But it couldn’t have because we’re completely different people.

‘I wasn’t making music that sounded anything like Royals. I think you just read what you want into it because you’re feeling insecure about your own work.’

An interviewer even once mistook Charli for Lorde and she played along, pretending she was her.

However, Charli XCX is in the spotlight now after her hyper pop-electronic record BRAT has already debuted as the ‘most critically acclaimed record of the year’ surpassing Beyonce’s latest album Cowboy Carter and Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department.

Ranking number one on Metacritic, Charli’s new album BRAT glided past Queen B’s hit country-pop album Cowboy Carter, which was released on March 29 and is the singer’s eighth studio album.

According to review aggregator Metacritic, received ‘universal acclaim’ based on a score of 92 out of 100 from 11 critics scores.

BRAT is the singer’s sixth studio album and the record reportedly evokes and channels the illegal London rave scene where Charli started performing when she was 14 or 15.

According to Charli XCX, BRAT is her ‘most aggressive and confrontational record’, but also her most vulnerable.
