Algarve mayor to create “code of conduct” for tourists

Must read

According to a press release from Albufeira council: “The behaviour of foreign tourists in broad daylight last weekend triggered a meeting called by the Municipality on an emergency basis with all security forces and associations in the tourism sector. A meeting with the Minister of Internal Administration and the creation of a committee to draw up a Code of Conduct are the next steps.

“The behaviour of tourists in Albufeira will soon be regulated, and for this purpose, a commission will be created in charge of establishing a Code of Conduct”.

The events that occurred last weekend on Rua da Oura led the Executive to hold an emergency meeting on the 19th and called the GNR, the Port Authority of Portimão, the Algarve Bartenders Association and several associations to the meeting. of the tourism sector, such as AHRESP Albufeira – Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar Services of Portugal, APAL – Albufeira Promotion Agency, ACALB – Commercial Association of Albufeira, AHISA – Association of Hotel and Similar Industries of the Algarve and APECATE – Portuguese Business Association of Congresses, Tourist Entertainment and Events. The invitation was intended to raise awareness among businesspeople associated with these structures so that they do not allow the behavioural excesses that have been occurring inside and in the space surrounding their establishments.

Having heard the opinions of everyone present, José Carlos Rolo determined that a Code of Conduct will be created to be applied in the public space of the municipality, and for this purpose, a commission responsible for its preparation must be created, and will soon meet with the Minister of Internal Administration, Margarida Blasco. Another measure will be the beginning of the urban requalification process on Avenida Sá Carneiro.

José Carlos Rolo stated that he “regrets that Albufeira’s image is being damaged by incidents such as those that have occurred in the bar areas, when in the rest of the municipality security and tranquillity have been a continuous record, as evidenced by the annual demand for tourists, particularly of families, whether from abroad or Portuguese”.
