England fans have enjoyed a party in Frankfurt ahead of tonight’s game with Denmark.
There was a carnival atmosphere in the main Romerberg Square which was full of thousands of supporters. One England fan was loudly cheered when he did a spectacular backflip into a fountain.
And a Danish band was greeted with cheers when they played “Hey Jude” in front of a pub full of jubilant English fans in Frankfurt. The Three Lions supporters joined in singing their tribute to star player Jude Bellingham.
At first the band played traditional Danish songs and when they headed over towards the Alten Limpburg pub, full of England fans, they were, at first, met with bemusement. But when they started playing “Hey Jude” and “Sweet Caroline” they were applauded.
Then to top it off a Danish bus promoting football peace arrived in the square and gave out free beer to fans. Erik Bro, a Danish Liverpool fan from Aarhus said: “We just want to bring fans together.”
After driving 650 miles to the city, the consultant, 55, hoisted a St George’s Cross up the bus’s flag pole. He said: “We invite opponents in for a beer. The rule is that if a Dane comes with an English fan under his arm, then they will both have a free pint.” The 30-year-old Volvo, called the Roliganbussen, has been transformed to complete its diplomatic mission of bridging divisions between football fans.
