Person hit by train on EMR line

A person was hit by a train earlier this morning, East Midlands Railway (EMR) said. It said lines were closed after the incident which happened between Bedford and Luton, and they re-opened at about 11am.

However, disruption continued for several hours in and out of London St Pancras International as a result. The London to Nottingham line was affected with trains running through Market Harborough and Leicester delayed.




EMR said at the time that two of its four lines were closed.

All lines now open but delays remain

The latest update from EMR stated: “Lines are now open between Bedford and Luton. Please be aware your journey may still be delayed by up to 60 minutes and there may be late notice alterations. Please check your journey before you travel”

Trains heading north also affected

Trains heading north are also being delayed by the line closures. The online live deparatures board for Leicester shows the 9.09am to Sheffield is still delayed, while the 9.20am to Nottingham is only expected to reach Leicester at about 10.12am.

The 9.40am to Sheffield is due in to Leicester at 10.16am. Trains east and west to Birmingham and Stansted are not affected in the same way, although the 9.14am to Stansted hasn’t arrived yet.

Lines re-opening

In an update at about 9.20am the rail company said: “2 of the 4 lines are now open between Bedford and Luton. There will be significant disruption and delays to services until all 4 lines can open. Please check your journey before travel.”
