The 2024-25 season will already be a memorable one for the Toffees regardless of how their season unfolds as they are set to say goodbye to Goodison Park.
Goodison Park was the first major stadium built in England, only Scotland rivalled the grounds at the time with Celtic Ground and Ibrox so it will be difficult to see it go.
The impressive development set the bench-mark for football stadiums throughout the country.
The Blue side of Merseyside will soon be leaving all that history behind however when they move out of the infamous grounds and into their new wonder-build on Liverpool‘s famous waterfront in less than six months.
That being said Sean Dyche‘s men still have to play out a full season at Goodison adding one final year of history to the grounds before they call the Everton Stadium their new home… but who will Everton play in their last ever game at Goodison?
Who will Everton play in their last game ever at Goodison Park?
Everton will play newly promoted Southampton in their final game ever at Goodison Park.
They will play the Saints on Sunday, May 18 at 3pm in their second last game of the season, however it will be their final tie at Goodison before moving.
Can Everton get a win in their final game at Goodison?
It is looking hopeful for Sean Dyche’s men as first and foremost they are not playing any of the so called ‘Big Six’ clubs in their farewell game – so that is a plus.
Everton fans will be mildly confident heading to Goodison that they can get the win since they will be facing one of the newly promoted sides.
Although the Toffees are looking to leave the past behind, they have history on their side when it comes to this fixture.
They have the better record against the Saints in their head-to-head clashes which date all the way back to January 27, 1900.
The two sides have faced each other a whopping 109 times, Everton have won the fixture on 52 occasions, drawing 23 and losing 34.
Why Everton requested their final game of the season not be played at Goodison Park?
It has been revealed that Everton requested that their final game at Goodison Park not be put on the last day of the Premier League season as they wanted to give the infamous grounds the biggest send-off possible.
You see the final round of matches of the Premier League season each year take place at the same time on the same day – for next season that will be 4pm on Sunday, May 24.
This would mean that Everton’s farewell to Goodison could be lost within the other various story-lines which may unfold that day.
To combat that possibility Everton have seen their request granted to not play their final game at Goodison on the last day. Instead they will play it a week earlier.
Last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park?
Everton and Liverpool will playout the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Sunday December 7, 2024.
The match has been fixed for a 3pm kick-off time.
