Overwatch 2 Will Introduce Mythic Weapon Skins In Season 11

Must read

There’s a new season of Overwatch 2 starting on June 20, and as part of that Blizzard will start offering a new kind of cosmetic reward. Later in season 11 (aka Super Mega Ultrawatch), you’ll be able to spend your hard-earned Mythic Prisms on Mythic weapon skins.

The first Mythic weapon skin that you’ll be able to snap up is the Mythic Bound Demon Reinhardt Weapon Skin, which will be available on July 23. Like Mythic skins, Mythic weapon skins are purely cosmetic and will have unique visual and sound effects. When Rein hits an Earthshatter with his Mythic weapon skin equipped, he’ll yell “BIG SLAM,” which sounds delightful.

You’ll be able to use Mythic weapon skins with any of that hero’s character skins. The base Mythic weapon skin will be available for 50 Mythic Prisms, and it’s upgradable with a weapon flourish emote (Rein will spin his hammer in the air), reactive effects and elimination visual effects.

I like the idea of Mythic weapon skins. Since Overwatch 2 is a first-person game, you don’t get to see your hero’s skin that often, and weapon skins are perhaps a more persistent visual reward. Also, if you’re not interested in a season’s Mythic skin, the Mythic weapon skin may give you more of a reason to progress through the Premium Battle Pass.

On the downside, you won’t be able to earn enough Mythic Prisms through the Premium Battle Pass to earn each season’s Mythic skin and Mythic weapon skin, which is a bit of a bummer.

Meanwhile, in case you missed the news, the iconic Pink Mercy charity skin will return soon. You’ll be able to buy that and a new Rose Gold Mercy bundle to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. You can read more about that here:
