Aldi is to refurbish over 30 UK shops this summer as part of a £90 million 2024 store improvement programme.
Changes will vary at store level, but will include providing more shopping space and ensuring that stores have more sustainable features such as doors on fridges to reduce energy use and the use of natural refrigerants to reduce carbon emissions. There will also be updated signage and redesigned store layouts.
Over 100 stores will be upgraded this year with most of the work taking place in June, July and August. Shops undergoing the biggest changes will include Leek, Newport and Brierly Hill.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “Aldi attracted more new customers than any other grocery retailer in the last 12 months, and we want to continue to offer the best possible in-store experience for our shoppers.
“We’re committed to making sure that the shopping experience is on a par with the high-quality products and service we offer. Finding ways to reduce any environmental impact as we continue to grow our store estate across the country is also a vital part of these changes.”
