Ray Parlour apologises for video paying tribute to Kevin Campbell

Ray Parlour has issued an apology online after he posted a video paying tribute to Kevin Campbell after the former Arsenal and Everton footballer passed away, aged 54. 

Tributes have been flooding in for the former footballer after it was announced on Saturday that he had sadly passed away. It came after Everton had announced earlier in June that Campbell had been ‘very unwell’. 

Several of his former team-mates, including Ian Wright and Wayne Rooney paid their respects online. 

Parlour had also issued his tributes to his former team-mate, writing on X (formerly Twitter): ‘Devastated hearing the news this morning RIP Kevin. 

‘Great player and even nicer Fella. Thoughts with his family at this tough time.’ 

Parlour had also posted a now-deleted video of himself on X (formerly Twitter) as a tribute to Campbell.

Later on during the video the former Arsenal star was seen drinking a mix of beer and Jagermeister

He appeared to make the tribute to his former team-mate but later in the video appears to pour himself a mixture of Jagermeister and beer – before drinking the drink. 

The 51-year-old deleted the video from his X timeline, before publishing a message online.

He said on X: ‘I apologise if I have upset anyone in my last post. I wholeheartedly didn’t mean to come across as insensitive. 

‘I loved Kevin and I’m honestly devastated for his family and friends at this terrible time. 

‘I’m sending all my love to them and anyone who came across this amazing man.’

Parlour and Campbell played together 75 while they were playing for Arsenal, with both having risen through the youth ranks at the north London club.

Arsenal posted a tribute to the former player on Saturday, writing:’We are devastated to learn that our former striker Kevin Campbell has died after a short illness.

Parlour had previously paid tribute to Campbell on social media, writing: ‘Devastated hearing the news this morning, RIP Kevin’

‘Kevin was adored by everyone at the club. All of us are thinking of his friends and family at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Kevin.’

During his playing career, Campbell would play 210 matches for Arsenal returning 55 goals and 20 assists. He would go on to join Everton in 1999 where he would score 50 goals across 160 appearances for the Toffees.
