Dramatic footage has shown the aftermath of explosion caused by an apparent car bomb placed underneath the vehicle of a Russian military officer in the Rostov region.

Russian blogger Bazabazon, who shared the clip on the Telegram messaging app, said the blast happened on yesterday morning in the town of Millerovo.

His post explained: “Presumably, an IED was planted in the car; destructive elements were found at the scene of the explosion.

“The chief of staff of the military unit, Lieutenant Colonel Vadim S., was driving his Volvo when suddenly the car caught fire.

“The soldier quickly left the car and remained unharmed.”

“They extinguished the car and began to understand the reasons.”

Initially it was suggested the explosion had been caused by a “malfunction of gas equipment”, the Moscow-aligned blogger suggested.”

However they added: “Later, during an inspection of the scene, objects similar to parts of an IED were discovered. Metal balls with a diameter of 4 mm were also found around the car, which could be used as destructive elements.”

An investigation is currently underway, Bazabazon said.

“Vadim S” is likely to refer to Russian military officer and military unit commander Vadim Sobessky.

Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the explosion.
