Warning issued to anyone travelling to Greece

A warning has been issued to people travelling to Greece as soaring temperatures hit the country.

The summer has officially arrived and many families will be soon jetting off for a well deserved break. Greece is one of the most popular destinations in Europe with millions of holidaymakers in the UK travelling to the country each year.




However, anyone visiting the country over the coming days is urged to be vigilant as the first heatwave of the summer has arrived. Greek’s weather service has issued an excessive heat warning which is in force until 8pm on Thursday.

Temperatures in the Mediterranean country are expected to hit highs of 43C during the heatwave. The intense temperatures has sparked schools to close across parts of Athens.

Famous tourist hotspot, the Acropolis, was also closed between 9am to 2pm due to the life threatening temperatures. The surging temperatures are said to be caused by southerly winds bringing hot air from North Africa.
