Starship Troopers: Extermination is coming to fill the Helldivers 2 Xbox void

Must read

Sure, Helldivers 2 is the popular alien-blasting shooter right now, but we’ll soon be able to collect the Starship Troopers: Extermination achievements on Xbox. Offworld has announced that Starship Troopers: Extermination will launch on Xbox on October 11 — we can’t wait to dive into this Xbox FPS game, which also features Johnny Rico!

Starship Troopers: Extermination announced for Xbox

Players on PC and PlayStation have been eating well recently when it comes to alien bug-hunting, while we on Xbox haven’t managed to get a look in. Thankfully, that’s all about to change when Starship Troopers: Extermination finds a home on Xbox Series X|S in October.

Extermination is a 16-player, co-op FPS set on the frontlines of humanity’s war against the alien Arachnids. We play as a customizable Deep Space Vanguard Trooper — a Special Forces branch of the Mobile Infantry — whose one purpose is to rid various planets of the ugly bugs. Missions will task us with rebuilding bases, constructing refineries, and completing a host of objectives across several maps filled with swarms of Arachnids.

You’ll be able to choose from six different classes, such as Snipers, Demolishers, Medics, and Rangers, unlocking new weapons, perks, equipment, and cosmetics as you level up. Be aware, though, that it’s not just the humans with powerful weapons, as the Bugs also include a host of variants, with some more vicious than others. Constructing walls, ammo dumps, and towers could be your only chance of survival when it comes to hunkering down and standing your ground against your hive-minded adversaries.

We only got a brief tease in the announcement trailer above, Johnny Rico actor Casper Van Dien will be reprising his role, but the official website offers a little more information.

“Johnny Rico will be commanding the single-player game mode to be included in our 1.0 launch, alongside new enemies, locations and more,” Offworld says. “As for what players can expect from this experience, you’ll be tapped for an elite spec ops group within the Mobile Infantry. Players will find themselves following the orders of living legend General John “Johnny” Rico, testing their mettle against hordes of enemy Arachnids with the aid of three original NPC allies to prove themselves worthy of selection.

“This new game mode is focused on providing a unique single-player experience. It offers 25 distinct missions and a variety of unique PvE combat scenarios across various environments, and we’re looking to follow up with a second chapter after the 1.0 launch. Additionally, in the coming weeks, we will share more information regarding Starship Troopers: Extermination—including details about the latest update.”

If you’re after more chaotic FPS action, Doom: The Dark Ages was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase.
