Messaging between Galaxy phones, iPhones to improve massively with RCS via iOS 18

Must read

A few hours ago, Apple unveiled iOS 18, which brings dozens of new features to iPhones. The company focused on AI-powered features and UI customizability. However, an important feature like Rich Communication Services (RCS) got just two seconds of airtime during Apple’s WWDC 2024 keynote.

iOS 18’s RCS feature will massively improve the messaging experience between iPhones and Galaxy devices

Earlier this year, Apple announced that it would bring RCS to iPhones later this year. During the WWDC 2024 event, the company announced that iOS 18 features RCS in the stock Messages app. While it won’t make green bubbles disappear from the Messages app, it will bring modern messaging features, including group chatting, high-resolution image and video sharing, read receipts, typing indicators, and voice messages when conversing with Android users.

iOS 18 will roll out to iPhones in the fall of this year. So, you can have modern messaging features on your Galaxy phone when texting a friend who uses an iPhone. So, this will improve the experience for both you and your friend. Apple will use the RCS Universal Profile 2.4 for iOS 18.

The story continues after our video about One UI 6.1.

As you can see in the screenshot above, iPhone users will see messages from Android users in green bubbles in the Messages app. However, it will display the ‘Text Message • RCS’ tag inside the text field to let iPhone users know if they can access RCS. One thing missing from RCS Universal Profile 2.4 is end-to-end encryption, so iPhone users won’t have the level of security Android users enjoy via Google Messages.
