But Trafford could escape relegation with a move as his old coach Enzo Maresca wants him at Chelsea.

The pair worked together while the Italian was a coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also considering a bid.

However, the Clarets will ask for DOUBLE the fee they paid City a year ago to make Blues and Newcastle think again about the stopper.

Trafford was left out the starting XI by ex-boss Vincent Kompany at the tail end of the season – but his valuation has still soared since moving from Etihad back-up to the Premier League.

Chelsea would pay around £20m for Trafford and he is seen as the club’s long-term No 1 target.

Newcastle were hoping to pay less but have also found out that other potential targets are also wildly priced.

Arsenal are looking for £50m for their No 2 Aaron Ramsdale, made up of a guaranteed £40m plus add-ons.

Burnley paid £15m when they signed Trafford from City and are also due to pay extras.

Meanwhile, Birmingham are keen on Burnley midfielder Scott Twine, 24, who will be sold in this window.

The League One outfit have already made an inquiry but Bristol City and managerless Sunderland may join in the auction.
