Must read

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die turned the lackluster as of late box office around with $5.9 million in Thursday night receipts on 3,339 screens.

The fourth installment in the long-running franchise follows 2020’s Bad Boys For Life and is expected to bring in between $45 and $50 million this weekend on a budget of $100 million.

It also marks the biggest box office debut for Smith, 55, since the now infamous slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards

Will and Martin, 59, made their respective debuts as Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett in the first Bad Boys movie, which was released in 1995.

The pair went on to reprise their roles in Bad Boys II and Bad Boys For Life, which were released in 2003 and 2020, respectively.

Smith’s agents at CAA are said to be working the phones on his behalf for the first time since the slap hoping to announce his next project shortly, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Earlier this week, Lawrence had to assure fans his health is fine after they were convinced something was seriously wrong during the press tour for Bad Boys 4.

During the Los Angeles premiere of the film on May 30, Smith led an unsteady Lawrence across the top of a bus, which caused a storm of speculation on social media with fans wondering what happened to the 59-year-old actor.

Lawrence and Smith appeared on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning June 4, and host Ebro Darden asked the actors about the internet speculation surrounding Lawrence’s health.

Darden asked Martin if there was anything he wanted to tell his fans ‘because they’re concerned about your health.’

‘I’m fine. I’m in God’s hands,’ Lawrence said, adding, ‘I’m blessed. You know, I’m glad to be waking up every day. I’m all good. No need for people to be concerned.’

Later, as the interview was being wrapped up, Lawrence, seemingly addressing the speculators on social media, joked, ‘I’m healthy as hell. Stop the rumors!’

And while Smith and Lawrence are each other’s on screen ride-or-dies, in real life, Smith looks closer to home and earlier in life for those people.

‘It’s funny, I was just talking about this, I have always been blessed that there has never been a time in my life when I didn’t look to the side and have a ride or die right there,’ Smith told People

‘Jada is one of the most gangsta ride-or-dies I’ve ever had.’

He also listed his longtime friends and collaborators DJ Jazzy Jeff and Alfonso Ribeiro, as ride-or-die people in his life.
