Lidl has submitted plans to open a new store on a high street in West London. Today, June 6, the budget supermarket Lidl has announced that plans have been submitted to open a new store on Brentford High Street.
The store will take over the site previously held by Morrisons, and will be a multi-million pound investment, Lidl has claimed. The new store will also be hiring 40 new staff.
These jobs will also be offering one of the highest rates of pay in the industry, Lidl claims, after a third pay raise for staff in 12 months. Lidl HQ has completed a lease with developer L&Q for the site, and has now submitted a planning application to Hounslow Council.

The new store will include the popular ‘Middle of Lidl’ aisles, which offer shoppers a wide range of items at heavily discounted prices. There will also be a Lidl bakery in the store, which is one of the most popular supermarket bakeries in the UK.
Current plans for the store also include customer toilets with baby changing facilities, alongside lots of parking for both cars and bicycles. Grant Shulton, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, commented: “We know how much those living in the area value having a supermarket on this site, so we’re delighted to confirm our plans for a Lidl in Brentford.
“If planning permission is granted it would mark a multi-million-pound investment, whilst providing the community with easy access to our high quality, affordable products.”
This site is one of several in London that the budget grocery store has had its eye on in the city. In May, Lidl announced plans to open hundreds of new supermarkets across the UK in the next few years, with many areas of London in their sightlines.
Lidl said it’s looking to open supermarkets in prominent locations with easy access and a strong flow of traffic or pedestrians, allowing for unit sizes between 18,000 and 26,500 square feet, and more than 100 car parking spaces. And if you think you know of anywhere within the areas Lidl are searching, you could earn more than £20,000.
Lidl have said that if they successfully find a good location, they are willing to pay a finder’s fee of 1.5 percent of the total freehold purchase price, or 10 percent of the first year’s rent for leaseholds, which would equate to £22,500 for a completed £1.5 million site purchase. A finder’s fee can be paid to any member of the public who identifies a suitable site for it to open a new store.
