Most of the seasonal work up for grabs in Murcia is in the hospitality, tourism and transportation industries
Most of the vacancies are expected to come up in the usual high season fields: hospitality and tourism of course, but also retail, transportation and the entertainment industry.
At the national level, the summer campaign is forecast to generate around 600,000 jobs, 12.4% more than last year and a rather incredible 56% more than a decade ago.
Although the figures are impressive, the 2024 prediction is actually lower than pre-pandemic 2019, when more than 621,000 seasonal contracts were signed.
Compared to last year, the sector predicted to grow the most will be leisure and entertainment (+35%), followed by restaurants (+29%) and hotels (+15%). With more moderate growth is the transportation and logistics industry (+11%) and the only sector that decreases slightly compared to the previous year is commerce (-2%), which was already registering a high volume in 2023.
According to the experts in the Region of Murcia, employers will be looking for several key skills in potential summer staff, including:
- Availability and time flexibility: Since many summer jobs require varied schedules and availability during weekends and holidays, companies highly value candidates who can work flexible schedules.
- Attitude and motivation: A positive attitude and strong motivation are qualities that employers consider essential. Candidates who show enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and contribute are most valued.
- Relevant experience: Although many summer jobs do not require extensive experience, having a background in similar roles can be an advantage. Companies look for candidates who can adapt quickly and bring prior knowledge to their new roles.
- Responsibility: Companies look for employees who are responsible and capable of completing their tasks consistently and efficiently.
