We all reckon it’s just plain good form to pop something back where it came from after using it, right?
However, one mum and psychologist has just owned up to never bothering to return her shopping trolley post-grocery haul, and she’s not fussed about your opinion on it.
Mum-of-two Leslie Dobson has copped a hefty dose of social media heat after her cheeky 17-second clip blew up online, slapping the hashtag ‘protect our children’ on it as her excuse for leaving the trolley astray. “I’m not returning my shopping cart”, she boldly declares at the start of her video.

Warning, the below video contains strong language:
“And you can judge me all you want”, she blasts on, explaining: “I’m not getting my groceries into my car, getting my children into the car, and then leaving them in the car to go return the cart.”
She’s got a fiery comeback for anyone side-eyeing her choice, snapping: “So if you’re gonna give me a dirty look, f**k off.”
But the comment section wasn’t having any of it, with many calling out her flawed reasoning. “If you can get the cart, you can return the cart. Look up the shopping cart theory”, one user insisted.
This so-called shopping cart theory reckons you can suss out someone’s moral compass based on whether they bother to wheel the trolley back to its home or just abandon it wherever they fancy.
One person commented: “I absolutely believe in the shopping cart theory. Maybe the return was across the lot, maybe it was literally across from the spot where you parked. Either way the theory holds true”, while Leslie hit back: “I want women to feel empowered to trust their intuition if they feel unsafe, ignore judgment. Risk isn’t worth it and our lives are precious. I have seen lives destroyed. I hope you never don’t.”
TikTok user @jennyfromthe_burbs chimed in with a video stitch, claiming it’s “truly so easy” to take your shopping trolley back after use, and even recommended that shoppers “park next to” the trolley bay for convenience.
Another TikToker threw in their two cents, suggesting: “Ok so a fun trick is; remember how you got your child to the cart? When returning the cart just do that but in reverse! It’s fun because having a child is a responsibility.”
