Warning for people travelling to Manchester Airport as ‘delays are expected’

Jet2 has warned passengers travelling to Manchester Airport this summer to “allow enough time” to make their flight. The warning is due to road works between Junction 4 and Junction 7 on the M56.

Resurfacing works are being carried out by National Highways on both sides of the M56 between the two junctions, starting on Monday June 10. The works should be completed by August 20204.




Jet2 advises passengers to check with National Highways for updates and follow diversions. The airline added: “Please allow enough to time to travel to Manchester Airport as all Jet2.com flights are due to operate as scheduled.”

Manchester Airport said that “delays are expected” due to the resurfacing works, which will take place overnight across various dates in June, July and August. It urges passengers to “allow extra time for your journeys”.

On a statement on its website, it said:” National Highways are carrying out essential overnight resurfacing works on both sides of the M56 between Junction 4 and Junction 7. Works are due to start on Monday 10th June 2024 and completed by August 2024. Closures will take place between 21:00 and 05:00, Monday to Friday, and extending to 07:00 on Saturdays.

“This will include a mix of full overnight closures and slip closures. Signed diversion routes will be in place.

“National Highways are carrying out essential overnight resurfacing works on both sides of the M56 between Junction 4 and Junction 7. Works are due to start on Monday 10th June 2024 and completed by August 2024.
