Liverpool could revisit cheap deal for ace first eyed as Bellingham alternative

Must read

Liverpool could reignite its interest in Nice’s Khephren Thuram this summer with the France international available at a bargain fee. The 23-year-old was heavily linked with the Reds a year ago as Jurgen Klopp sought to overhaul his midfield options.

Having missed out on Jude Bellingham, The Independent claimed that Klopp was keen on Thuram due to his impressive running stats, with the aim to add more legs to his squad. There were some reports at the time that Liverpool had even agreed personal terms with Thuram’s representatives over a potential switch to Anfield.

A move didn’t materialize though as Klopp instead brought in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch with the quartet each making an impact in their maiden campaigns with the club.

It appears that Arne Slot will prioritize additions in defense and attack this summer but that has not stopped fresh links to Thuram — son of former Juventus defender Lillian and brother of France striker Marcus.

Thuram is said to have remained a long-term target for Liverpool and Italian outlet TuttoJuve claims the Reds are back in the running for his signature. His performances helped Nice qualify for the Champions League but his future is far from certain.

The midfielder’s contract is due to expire in a year’s time and he is free to talk to foreign clubs as early as January. And that means Nice could be forced to sell him for a bargain fee during the summer window.

One player who would be open to Thuram moving to Anfield is Ibrahima Konate. The pair grew up playing together and the Liverpool ace told RMC Sport last year: “Khephren is like my little brother.”
