Burnley interested in appointing Lampard as Kompany replacement

Must read

Frank Lampard is a contender to become Burnley’s next manager following Vincent Kompany’s move to Bayern Munich.

Burnley have made Craig Bellamy acting head coach as the club searches for Kompany’s successor, with Lampard understood to be of interest.

Lampard, 45, has been out of management since taking temporary charge of Chelsea until the end of the 2022-2023 campaign following Graham Potter’s dismissal.

The former England midfielder was sacked from his last permanent job as Everton manager after less than a year in charge, but has been identified as a potential candidate of interest for Burnley.

Bellamy will take charge on an interim basis alongside Mike Jackson, who is acting assistant head coach.

Bellamy and Jackson formed part of Kompany’s staff at Burnley as assistant manager and first team coach respectively but have not followed the Belgian to Germany.

Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has ruled himself out of being considered for the position.

“Following the departure of Vincent Kompany, we are actively working on our search for a permanent manager,” a Burnley statement read. “In the meantime, the Club has placed Craig Bellamy, assisted by Mike Jackson, in the roles of acting head coach and assistant head coach.

“We have complete faith in Craig and Mike and believe their extensive experience and deep understanding of the club make them the perfect candidates to lead the team at this important time.

“We will provide further updates regarding a permanent manager in due course.”
