ITV has given the axe to a popular thriller series, despite promising fans a new series was already in the works.

The drama made its initial debut in 2021 and it was originally given the green light for BritBox UK.

The Beast Must Die was the five-part limited series based off the book of the same name by Nicholas Blake.

In the summer of 2021, ITV announced that a second series of the show was in development, titled A Sword In My Bones.

It was set to be based on an original story which was created by the series original screenwriter Gaby Chiappe.

She also worked on hit series such as Doctors, Vera, EastEnders, Holby City and Casualty.

She also worked on a variety of hit british films such as ‘Their Finest’ with Bill Nighy and Gemma Arterton and ‘Misbehaviour’ with Keira Knightley, Keeley Hawes and Lesley Manville.

The follow-up was originally set to focus on the role of Detective Nigel Strangeways played by Billy Howle.

However, BritBox has since been absorbed into ITV as the commercial network now focuses on ITVX and the BBC sold their share in the UK service.

Plans for a follow-up series to The Beast Must Die have now apparently been scrapped.

It focuses on a mother named Frances Cairnes (Cush Jumbo) who is grieving for her son Martie who tragically died in a hit and run car accident.

She learned the police investigation into the fatal incident was dropped, so she takes matters into her own hands.

Frances disguises herself as a fake novelist who is researching for a new murder-mystery.

This is so she can ingratiate herself into the family of George Rattery (Jared Harris) who she thought was responsible for the accident and therefore the death of her son.

She sets out a plan to kill him, however she was tracked by detective Nigel Strangeways (Billy Howle).

He himself suspects the police department he works for covers up George’s involvement in the incident.
