A fire broke out at a shopping centre called The Heart in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, on Wednesday. An evacuation was initiated by the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and all residents of the complex were accounted for. At least eight fire engines were deployed at the site to put off the fire, the BBC reported.
The incident happened in the evening at around 7 p.m. BST. The complex, which mostly houses residents and shopkeepers, lies on the city’s High Street. The BBC reported citing police that High Street was closed from Ashley Road up to Hepworth Way while the responders carried out evacuations.
Photos of the fire were posted on social media which showed a huge smoke in that area. As of now, the fire has been extinguished, but it is not clear how long it will take for the building to again become operational.
This is a developing story and more information will be added.
