Virgil van Dijk has pledged his future to Liverpool and says he is enthusiastic about working with new head coach Arne Slot next season as he awaits clarity on his contract situation at Anfield.
The 32-year-old defender has just over 12 months remaining on his current deal with the Reds and earlier this month revealed that he is yet to be offered fresh terms from the club.
However, captain Van Dijk, who featured in 36 out of 38 Premier League games this season, has revealed that he has held positive talks with countryman Slot after he was appointed as Liverpool’s new head coach and is confident the club can build on their third-place finish in the Premier League.

“I still have a year left on my contract,” said Van Dijk over the weekend as Holland began their preparations for this summer’s European Championships. “I am club captain and I have made it clear I am there for the new coach and enthusiastic over the next season.
“Obviously, there will be a lot of changes but I am confident we will make a big success of it.
“I congratulated him of course and I’m really pleased for him and his family. We spoke about the team and the future, but now my focus is fully on the national team.”
Van Dijk, though, wasn’t the only member of Liverpool’s Dutch contingent to speak highly of Slot, with midfielder Ryan Gravenberch also expecting good things from the Reds’ new boss.
“I think he can be good for my career,” said Gravenberch, who has also been named in Holland’s provisional squad for this summer’s Euros. “It’s a coach who wants to play good football.”
