Blues dismiss concerns over Hynes’ fitness for Origin

Must read

NSW expect Nicho Hynes to begin training immediately, with coach Michael Maguire adamant the halfback’s sore calf won’t impact his State of Origin preparations.

Hynes failed to get through Cronulla’s 42-0 loss to Penrith on Saturday night, as he continues to battle a lingering calf issue.

There were concerns that would impact his build up to the June 5 Origin series opener, with Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon predicting a modified training load.

But Maguire said he expected Hynes to be fully fit for the Blues first main training session on Wednesday, and had no concerns over his fitness for Game I.

“He had a scan yesterday and it looked really good. There’s no further damage and I think it actually looked better,” Maguire said.

“I reckon he’ll hit the ground running on day one. That’s what we’re working towards.

“We’re really confident with where he’s at.”

If Hynes was to have issues, it is likely Luke Keary would be the man to come into the halves after initially being named as 19th man for the Blues.
