Must read

Tributes have been paid to an “absolute gentlemen” who set up a small Welsh pizza business that attracted customers from all over the country. Peter Morris, from Beaufort, near Ebbw Vale, set up Little Dragon Pizza Van in 2016.

Over the past eight years the pizza van, perched on the secluded moors of Llangynidr near the Blaenau Gwent and Powys border, has become famous in the area for its authentic Italian style pizza cooked fresh in a wood fire. The company’s customers even included the Prince and Princess of Wales last year. On Saturday, the company shared the tragic news that its founder and owner had died.

In a statement, Little Dragon Pizza Van said: “We are saddened to inform you about the loss of our owner, Peter Morris. In 2016 Pete established Little Dragon Pizza, his dedication, enthusiasm, and effort have shaped the business into what it is today. Over the past eight years Pete has given everyone great memories and great food. We were fortunate to call him as our boss and friend. His contagious passion will be remembered. We are committed to continuing the hard work he invested his time in and do him proud.”

Hundreds of people have left heartfelt tributes to Mr Morris, with one person referring to him as the “pizza king”. Another wrote on the company’s Facebook page: “He was a lovely kind man, passionate for his pizzas, fishing and wildlife.” Abergavenny chip shop Catch 22 posted a message calling Mr Morris an “absolute diamond of a bloke”, while Crickhowell FC posted: “An absolute gentlemen and will be missed by so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficult time.”

One woman wrote that Mr Morris’s death represents a “huge loss to our community of Brynmawr”, while another said: “I can’t find the words to say how sad I am at Peter’s passing. Sending heartfelt sympathies to his beautiful family, his friends and employees. You will be sorely missed.” For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter
