Darwin Nunez market value rockets amid Liverpool uncertainty after £85m transfer

Must read

Darwin Nunez’s market value has rocketed ahead of the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old striker has been heavily linked with an exit from Liverpool following a difficult end to the season.

Nunez, who sees his contract at Anfield expire in 2028, featured 36 times in the Premier League last term, netting 11 goals and setting up eight. Despite ending the campaign with a respectable return in front of goal, the Uruguay international failed to score in each of his final eight games.

It wasn’t the only time Nunez endured a barren run either; during the festive period, he went another eight matches without finding the net. The frontman can not be solely blamed for Liverpool’s fall off in the title race, but his finishing certainly cost Jurgen Klopp’s side at times during the season.

Despite this, Nunez’s market value has rocketed, according to Transfermarkt. The Uruguayan was priced at €65m (£55.3m) in December 2023 before soaring to €70m (£60.6m) in March 2024 following a rich vein of form and the CIES Football Observatory value him at a whopping €100m (£85m).

Nunez marked his first Premier League appearance of the New Year with two goals against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. He then scored three more and provided an assist in his next five outings for Liverpool in the English top flight.

The Reds ace managed just one more in early April before beginning his barren run. Nevertheless, Nunez has remains an expensive asset for Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window and, if Arne Slot wishes to cash in, the Reds could secure a healthy windfall.
