Person hit by train on major line as ScotRail cancels services amid travel chaos

A BUSY Scots railway line has been closed after a person was hit by a train.

National Rail confirmed the tragic incident happened between Glasgow Central and Motherwell station at around 12pm today.

The rail operator said all lines between the two stations have been closed to allow emergency services access.

They also said services between Glasgow Central and Larkhall and Shotts may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

The line is expected to be closed until around 2pm.

ScotRail confirmed earlier that mercy crews were dealing with an incident at Uddingston Station.

A National Rail spokesperson said: “A person has been hit by a train between Glasgow Central and Motherwell.

“Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed.

Trains between Glasgow Central and Larkhall/Motherwell/Shotts may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

“If you’ve been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to.

“You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat.

“Services are being further delayed by the earlier damage to the overhead electric wires in the Newton (Lanark) area.

“Disruption is expected until 2pm.”

A spokesperson for ScotRail added: “The emergency services are dealing with an incident at Uddingston.

“Train services going through this station will be cancelled, delayed or revised.

“Please check our app/website for the latest travel info.”
