Ruth Jones also appeared on Heart Radio to talk about the upcoming Christmas special
Jason asked: ‘Should we leave it at that?’
Emma fumed: ‘No! I want to know when. When you’re going to start writing!’
‘It might be a while, it might take us a while,’ James told them.
‘We got to find us a new idea, but we are definitely, definitely, going to give it a shot.’
Gavin and Stacey has been a huge fan favourite over the years, since it premiered in 2007.
There have been three successful series running over three years.
The drama wrapped up in 2010, but then returned nine years later for a Christmas special in 2019.
Fans were over the moon when they found out that there was going to be another special this festive season.
Ruth and James have worked on Gavin and Stacey together for a number of years
Gavin and Stacey returns tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One.
James, Ruth, Mathew Horne, Joanna Pag, Larry Lamb, Alison Steadman and Rob Brydon have reprised their iconic roles in the drama.
One thing that many are desperate to know what happened Bryn West (Rob Brydon) and Jason (Robert Wilfort) during THAT fishing trip.
It is one of the remaining storylines in the show that has a big question mark over it.
Ruth told the radio presenters: ‘But at that point (2019) we didn’t even think we’d ever make another episode.’
She added: ‘Yeah, all we can say is it is not illegal in this country.’
Meanwhile the cast have teased that the final episode will be ‘full of surprises‘ as they shared some behind-the-scenes footage.
Ruth said: ‘We are going to see familiar faces and there may be a few surprises in there’.
James added: ‘This will be the last time we ever see all these characters together’.
While Larry confessed: ‘I think people are going to be really bowled over by [the final episode] , they’re going to be blown away frankly’.
Back in May it was confirmed that Gavin and Stacey was returning to our screens one last time.
James and Ruth posed for a selfie with the script and posted it on Instagram.
They wrote: “Some news… It’s official!!!
‘We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One.
‘Love Ruth and James.’
