It looks like the Nintendo Switch 2 could be revealed at Christmas, albeit not by Nintendo.
A recent report on Reddit suggests the new Nintendo console and its dock is in the hands of one lucky fan.
We’ll get to the good stuff shortly, but the leaker has promised to post proof on Christmas, which means we may potentially get a look at the new console on December 25.
In the meantime, Reddit user “NextHandheld” has given fans a few details about the new console, including its name.
According to “NextHandheld”, the console will be called the Nintendo Switch 2, which does come as something of a surprise.
In addition to being more powerful than the current system, the console is also said to have some additional functionality.
The Joy-con controllers will reportedly feature magnetic hall effect joysticks, which should eliminate stick drift.
The console will allegedly launch in dark grey, although further colours may also be available.
Outside of the proof “NextHandheld” has said he will post at Christmas, the console should be revealed in full next January.
According to previous leaks, the new console is reportedly larger than the current model, with a smaller bezel for more screen space.
There’s a good chance the upcoming Metroid Prime sequel could launch as a cross-generation title for both the Switch and its successor.
Nintendo has done this with games like Twilight Princess back on the Gamecube and Wii, as well as Breath of the Wild on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
Speaking of Breath of the Wild, there are reports that Nintendo showcased the power of the Switch 2 with a demo for the highly-rated Legend of Zelda release.
“NextHandheld” also suggests Mario Kart 9 could be unveiled alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 when it’s announced next year.
