Images of an upcoming Killzone collaboration with Helldivers have seemingly appeared online.
The images, which briefly appeared on social media over the weekend before being taken down by a claim reportedly from Sony Interactive Entertainment, appeared to show that Killzone skins are planned for the game.
The collaboration will reportedly launch alongside the Righteous Revenants Warbond. No further information about the collaboration is known. The images show that the game will likely receive skins based on the classic Helghast armour as well as the Obedient armour class which was introduced in later games.
Update
PlayStation has officially announced the Helldivers 2 x Killzone 2 collaboration.
The cosmetics will be added to the Helldivers 2 premium store on December 23.
The Killzone franchise, which was originally developed by Guerrilla Games, hasn’t received a new entry since 2014’s Killzone Shadowfall.
Earlier this year, Guerrilla Games’ said that the decision to start working on Horizon: Zero Dawn series was a deliberate choice to move away from the Killzone series.
In an interview with the Washington Post, art director Roy Postma, who has worked at Guerrilla for 24 years, says that following the release of Killzone: Shadow Fall on PS4, the studio decided it no longer wanted to work on the Killzone series.
Instead, they opted to start work on a new series with more colourful environments, as opposed to the grittier, greyer worlds of Killzone.
“We were done with it as a team,” Postma explained. “As a studio, we needed to refresh the palette. It was, by choice, the opposite of Killzone.”
