The North Shields singer announced on Tuesday (December 17) that he has been told to go on vocal rest after catching the flu – and can’t use his voice “for a prolonged length of time”.
The devastating news comes as Sam was due to take to the stage in Glasgow tonight, at the OVO Hydro, and then in Newcastle on Friday. The Glasgow concert has also been cancelled.
Sam revealed he was suffering from the flu on stage at Glasgow’s arena on Monday evening – although fans still praised the singer, with one person branding him the “best voice I’ve heard all 2024”.
While details on rescheduled dates have not yet been confirmed, he said his team are figuring out a way to sort new dates, with more news soon.
He posted on Instagram: “Glasgow and Newcastle, as most of you know I’ve had the flu for a few days now. Regardless of how compromised my voice was I did everything I could to get it in working order last night to put on the best show possible.
“Today I’ve had an ENT scope/camera down my throat and sadly I’ve haemorrhaged my right vocal cord, I’m absolutely heartbroken.
“This has been the best tour so far and all I want to do is get up and sing again for you all tonight.
“I’ve had two separate ENT doctors say if I perform tonight l’m risking lasting damage to my voice and I have been advised to be on vocal rest and not use my voice for a prolonged length of time until it heals.
“I’ve done everything by the book this tour living like a monk, it’s so unlucky.
“I’m so, so sorry to all of you who are on your way tonight. We’re trying to figure out a way to reschedule for you all, more news soon. X”

The upcoming Utilita Arena gig, in particular, was special due to only those with North East postcodes being allowed to try for tickets.
However, fans don’t have to worry as Sam is still due to return to the North East next year for three nights at St James’ Park, which are scheduled for June.
He’s also set to tour across Europe and America next year – with some tickets available for these dates for UK fans up for a travel.
