Kay Burley is reportedly set to leave the Sky News Breakfast Show.
The 63-year-old broadcaster has helmed the 6am-10am slot for five years.
She joined the programme in October 2019 after starting at Sky as one of its original presenters in 1989.
But it’s now being claimed that her final show could be as soon as this week.
As reported by Deadline, while there is a chance that Burley could be leaving Sky News completely, a new role within the company is not off the cards.
Speaking on the impact of her reported departure, a Sky News insider said: ‘It would be massive if she left.’
The journalist marked an anniversary in her profession just weeks ago, taking to X with a joyous photo of herself wearing a white dress.
She wrote alongside it at the start of November: ‘Thirty six years today @skynews and counting…’
Burley has worked in journalism for 40 years, having also worked for BBC Local Radio, presented on LBC Radio, written for the Sunday Mirror, and occasionally appeared on Channel 5’s news bulletins.
While part of the Sky News team, Burley has covered some of the biggest news stories.
She broke the news of Princess Diana’s death shortly after 5am in August 1997 and broke the first UK reports of the 9/11 attacks. The latter earned Sky News its very first Bafta.
Burley also fronted coverage from Sri Lanka following the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and subsequent tsunami.
The following year, she was a key figure in Sky’s coverage of the General Election and the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.
Keeping in with major royal announcements, she fronted coverage of Prince George’s birth in 2013.
In 2020, the newsreader was forced to apologise for breaching Covid-19 lockdown rules on her 60th birthday.
She described her flouting of the restrictions as an ‘error of judgment’ but was taken off air for six months.
Upon her return to screens, Burley told the Daily Mail: ‘I thought I was Covid-compliant. I wasn’t. I made a mistake. I was an idiot, and I let myself and my viewers down.
‘I’m sorry for what I did and for any heartache I caused the loyal friends with me at the time. I was appropriately sanctioned.’
She added: ‘I paid for my mistake, quite rightly. My viewers told me how frustrated they were with me, and they were right to do so.
‘With time, the mood music changed, and my viewers wanted me back.’
Speculation surrounding Burley’s future at Sky News comes amid several shake-ups for the company.
In recent months, the presenting team has been considerably trimmed down, while new co-hosts, including Gareth Barlow and Mhari Aurora, have been introduced.
The latest exit came when business presenter Ian King announced he had quit his flagship show, Business Live with Ian King, after 10 years.
Sky News and reps for Kay Burley have been contacted for comment.
