Some awesome weapon customisation is on the way to Arrowhead’s awesome multiplayer game as a new Helldivers 2 attachment system UI has been discovered in the game files. After the arrival of The Illuminate launched following The Game Awards 2024, new leaks have discovered a massive gameplay overhaul in the works for the popular game.

Leaked Helldivers 2 attachments

While not officially confirmed by Arrowhead Game Studios, trusty leaker IronS1ghts has cracked through publicly available game files to discover the in-development Helldivers 2 attachment system. This in-development gameplay mechanic will allow players to change aspects of their loadout, adding new scopes, magazines and more to your favourite weapons.

IronS1ghts notes that the system is either in “very early development” or could “be scrapped” already. Just like the recently-leaked Wildlife system, there’s no guarantee that the weapons attachment mechanic will ever be added to the game. However, it has been worked on.

In the unfinished UI for the Helldivers 2 attachment system, the game allows players to change three aspects of their weapon: optics, magazine and ammo type. This means that players could add a larger magnification scope to, say, their classic WW1-era rifle, or even fit it out with an extended magazine. Outside of scopes, it’s unknown if these changes would have a visual effect on the weapons.

Too much complexity?

The current version of Helldivers 2 can get a little complicated, but it’s mostly a straightforward multiplayer game. However, that’s currently part of the charm: the game may be unforgiving, but it’s also very easy to get into.

With the arrival of weapon customisation—or “gunsmith” as fans have dubbed it—Helldivers 2 could quickly get more complicated. After all, the meta no longer becomes “this is the best weapon”, but instead “this weapon with these specific options is the best weapon”.
